I hung out with first graders again today. They were not as bad this time, now that they know me. I do have to make two trips to the principal with kids, had one kid drug out kicking and screaming, and one sent to the counselor, but not bad. I even taught a lesson on silent "O"s.
I am still waiting to see if I can attempt the para=pro test here. I was told it crashed often and f it crashes, I have to wait a month to retake and Anchorage is the only place I can take it with no risk. So I may try late at night, going as fast as I can and try to beat it crashing, if they let me. I am a fast test taker. I think I can it in 30 minutes. I did the practice in 20 and am way above state level. We shall see. I would prefer to take my time, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do. If I cannot try it or it crashes, then my boyfriend said he will find a way to get me to Anchorage in December and I can take the test and have a vacation there.
Things I miss from civilization
- Getting my eyebrows waxed
- Pedicures
- Salads from restaurants
- Movie theater popcorn
- Delivery food
- Streaming Netflix
Things I do not miss from civilization
- Driving and traffic
- Fast food (love/hate relationship)
- Being attached at the hip to electronic devices
- Having a schedule for everything
- Political Commercials (we do not have cable)
- Needing a purse and ID for everything (They do not check ID's for check cashing or anything because most do not have one and I do not carry a purse ever)
- Making so many decisons (where to eat, where to go for fun, etc. Here, you have a small store by the post office or the large store that has refrigerated goods. That is it. No restaurants, no bars, no entertainment venues. You have a clinic, store, post office, Tribal Council, church. Nothing else. Only entertainment is bingo at the TC, but I am unsure if I am welcome, being white and all.)
The point is, that it is a relaxing life. I wander through the village, not caring what time it is, no phone so I am not consumed with wondering if someone is texting me. The biggest decision is what movie or show to watch on DVD. I go to school at 8am most days with my boyfriend and see what jobs they have for me. It does not matter what I do since I am paid the same no matter what. Since everyone stocks up in bulk, for meals you just look in the freezer and pantry and pick something. The only need for the store is milk, eggs, veggies, soda. It is a stress-free life for the most part. I love it so far. I actually started getting sad when my boyfriend was talking about moving to Oregon or Washington. I want to be here another year and work on school.
Oh! Speaking of school. I want to do my pharmacy certificate program so I can have a decent job whenever we return to civilization. But, I may finish my Bachelors if I can get financial aid. I was against it at first because of financial reasons, but there is an accredited school that takes all college credits and you can get credit for life experience and such. You still have to pay to write the essays and test out of classes, but you can get credits towards graduation and graduate faster. Like maybe finish in a year instead of two. It is an idea, then I will have my degree finally and can do an RN program whenever I am in civilization and can afford to go to nursing school.
