Basically she said the trip was like being on vacation because I have been doing such a good job that she barely had anything to do! All of my records are great, I have all the health aides current on training, and she could not find anything that I was missing. She said that usually she spends trips scrambling around and barely getting things done, and that she always can find something that needs improvement, but with my lab, everything was perfect. Go me!
I am officially on the waiting list for x-ray training. She originally told management that it takes two years to fully train a lab tech before she thinks they can take on extra responsibilities. However, I am already to learn new things and help out in other areas. That makes me a year and a half ahead of schedule.
I start my lab tech certification class in a month. I am the guinea pig for the program since it is brand new for the company. University of Alaska stopped offering the distance lab classes, so we are trying out the Weber program to see how it is. We are hoping I get enough microscopy training, but it is hard to tell. My boss said she can approve two trips to Bethel during the semester if I need or want to go work in the hospital for more experience during certain parts of the program. This is awesome for work reasons and personal reasons. The personal part being I am one flight away from having a free round trip ticket to Bethel with Ravn Alaska. That saves me $560 at Christmas. The other personal reason is I need to get to Anchorage in the next couple months for medical reasons. If I can get to Bethel for free, it is only $300 or so round trip to Anchorage.
Our subregional clinic is the best of the best in the entire company. Our clinic is being used as a model of how all the other clinics should perform. If the company gets a Joint Commission survey this month, we were already told by management that they will send them to us because we are the best prepared. All of us rock!
