Friday was an awful day with the kids. I had to send four kids to the principal and a fifth got herself sent. I asked her to move to a different table because she was talking loudly during the movie and facing the wrong direction. She screamed, threw things, ran into the hall and started slamming doors. The assistant principal came and fetched her. This girl was already taken out of school in hand cuffs earlier in the week for ditching class to chew and smart mouthing the security officer. She had a bad week. Anyways, two of the 8th grade girls ended up getting suspended for the hostile profanity and threats they screamed at me in class, as well as wrote down with their names on it so I would know it was them. Writing down threats on paper is a stupid thing to do. The other two apologized and all was good. But yeah, two classes in the beginning of the day where I was called stuff like slut, whore, bitch, ugly fat fuck, told I was going to get popped and hit and told to go back to Colorado because no one wants me here make the day kind of rough.
A real sweet girl wrote a note saying to not be bothered by them because they just do not know me yet. My boyfriend is not that happy I sent kids away instead of just writing down names, but I could not allow girls screaming at the top of their lungs to the point where I could not speak to anyone or even put in the movie. And I could not let those kind of words be screamed in class. And he does agree that threats and bullying of any form need to be dealt with. I usually ignore the bad kids, but it was too extreme, and I was losing the good kids because they were so bothered by the other kids that they wanted to go see the counselor. I have no idea why these kids flipped out. Yes, they are known as the bad 8th graders, but usually it is just slacking off and paper airplanes, not meanness. All I did was try and get them to hand in work they have already done in class so they do not fail when grades come out next week and try and get them to watch a movie about the birth of civilization. It is not like I was even trying to give them a test today or claim their souls.
It actually made me really sad. I spent hours prepping for the three days I am subbing. making sure I can answer any questions about the movie, checking grades and missing assignments, especially because I have watched the kids do the work in class yet not turn it in (from the other two days I subbed recently). Making sure I can personally answer all of the bell ringer activities and personally do any work asked of them because I will be asked for help by 6th and 7th graders. So I spent my free time getting ready instead of having fun, and I get treated badly.
I am volunteering at the Basketball Tournament tonight. It is for grades 4-6. I was going anyways to take Yearbook pictures, so might as well help out as well. I also need to track down a ladder in the school so I can hang up some of the kids maps and coloring that I laminated.
