It was a tragic day country wide yesterday. But this is not a political journal, so I will save those thoughts for other mediums. The real sad thing was that my father lost the election he was running in. He tried so hard, him and his volunteers, even me before I moved. But when only 25% of the people in your district are of your party and it is a mid term election with low voter turnout, it is hard to win. I am proud he received 38% of the vote or around 14,000 votes. That is pretty awesome.
Cucuklillruunga! means "I voted" in Yup'ik. Except I did not vote, sadly. You cannot register to vote online, and by the time I could prove my Alaska address, it was past the window of mail in registration.

First off, I did take tons of pics, but they are of school children, so I cannot post them. They will be in the Yearbook, though!
Halloween is a huge deal here. I actually got paid on Friday to mostly watch Halloween Simpsons episodes and watch the parade. I was the upstairs SPED aide again, but they changed her schedule so I worked with grades 6, 7, 10. It is way better working with my middle school kids since every single one of them knows me well, so I can help them. However, the 7th graders are way too interested in touching me often. Playing with my hair and clothes ans grabbing me. Yikes! Only one class really did work. That was math, and I was able to help answer math questions while the teacher was busy. The rest of the classes were Halloween shows or free time. Then school got out almost two hours early so they could do the Halloween parade earlier than planned. Since I was taking pictures and it is a school assembly, I was paid for watching kids and adults in costumes. They did a costume contest for babies, K-2, 3-5, 6-12, and adults. The contestants parade around in the gym and the students vote for the winners by shouting and making noise. Trick or Treating started around 330pm and we stopped giving out candy at 6pm because we were volunteering at the gate for the volleyball tournament. It is weird seeing kids out so early, but once it was dark, the wind was pretty cold. When we were done after the tournament, kids kept coming by for candy until 10pm, despite lights being off and the blinds closed. Here in the bush, kids can trick or treat without costumes and get candy. Not every family can afford costumes. One of my favorite girls was sad on Friday because she had no costume. One thing that is very tough is being away from my family when someone is going through something bad. I feel so isolated and unable to help. I cannot just go over and find out what is wrong. I have to sit around and wait and worry.
